Located 225 kilometers by road to the northwest of Kampala Capital City. Mbale is considered one of the most ancient cities of Uganda yet with modern facilities. The town acts as a financial hub in the region as their are many financial institutions around. The city serves as the main municipal, administrative and financial center for the whole district, Mbale.
Mbale lies at the western foot of the extinct volcano Mount Elgon (4,321 metres), 75 miles (120 km) northeast of Jinja city. Mbale is an agricultural trade centre and the site of one of Uganda’s principal dairies. The town is the terminus for an improved road offering a scenic route around the north of Mount Elgon.
